Frequently Asked Questions

How does focal length affect angle of view?

Focal length is measured in mm. A short focal length (e.g. 3.6mm) represents a wide angle of view while a long focal length (16mm) represents a narrow angle of view.

Why would someone choose to install cameras besides for security reasons?

A lot of the systems we install are in secure neighborhoods. One of the main reasons a system is installed is that it allows our customers to view their homes when they away. Gives them the ability to check on pets, house sitters, and if a package is waiting at the front door for them. So our systems are used for a lot more reasons than just security.

What are the benefits of IP Cameras?

Multi-megapixel cameras give you the flexibility to cover more space or zoom in on live or recorded video for more detail. IP cameras deliver high-definition resolution up to 6.0 megapixels for exceptional image clarity, with the ability to electronically zoom in on specific details.

What is POE (Power Over Ethernet)?

POE enables you to receive power and data over a single CAT5 or CAT6 cable

What is Smart IR Technology integrated with True Day/Night?

Smart IR automatically adjusts IR intensity as the subject moves closer to or further away from the camera, so you always have a clear image that is not washed out or too dark. True day/night (ICR) improves low light sensitivity and delivers a crisp image in low light conditions by enabling the camera to see in the dark without an external IR illuminator.

What is H.264 Video Compression?

H.264 transmits high-quality images at the same rate as MPEG4. The higher compression ratio of H.264 reduces bandwidth and storage usage, keeping file sizes small and manageable.

What is the difference between Main Stream and Sub Stream video formats?

Mainstream and Substream are two different types of video streams used to view camera footage.

Mainstream is the primary video feed. Mainstream provides the highest video quality, and is the stream the DVR/NVR uses when saving footage to the internal HDD. Mainstream settings can be adjusted to increase or decrease recording resolution. These settings will impact recording file size and available recording time.

Substream is the secondary video feed. Substream provides a lower quality video stream, and is typically used to stream video to computers, smartphones, or tablets over the Internet. This allows you to reduce streaming quality for live or remote viewing, while maintaining higher quality on the mainstream for HDD recording and storage.
